The Price is Right for Green, Morning Course
With apologies to Bob Barker, The Price is Right original host; this class will teach REALTORS® the cost of typical green upgrades in new and existing housing stock, and project resale value. This theme was requested by the leadership of the Young Professional's Network, who wanted help with CMAs and comps on such things as heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, super insulation and air sealing, rooftop solar, and electric car chargers.
The format will be case studies by a net zero energy home builder, an energy retrofitted, and an energy auditor, with cost and benefits in energy savings. We will also hear from the Governor’s office on news from community resilience projects and from Efficiency Maine on their latest loans and rebates!
Offsite, Uptight, Out-of-Sight, Afternoon Course
Pre-fabrication offsite has been around for a hundred years since the Sears Catalog kit homes but is making its modern debut here in Maine, with modular and panelized construction blossoming as an alternative to stick-built onsite. Building offsite has distinct advantages for high volume and high productivity, including working in a climate-controlled building assembling pre-cut parts at eye level with computer-controlled cutting, drilling & fastening equipment, and working in an assembly line style with specialized stations. The wall, floor and roof pieces are assembled quickly on site by a local crew and finished out of the elements in a short period.
Instructors include principals from some of the many Maine area companies pre-fabricating homes and ADUs. Presentations will be case studies of actual homes built for customers, including pricing and energy efficiency metrics such as blower door testing and certifications. Discover the entrepreneurs leveraging teamwork, technology and ingenuity to tackle the housing shortage in the 21st century.
