LD 2003 Course Description: In recognition of the shortage of housing inventory in Maine, the Maine Legislature recently passed legislation to encourage and enable in-fill development. The landmark legislation was the result of a yearlong Commission study to increase housing opportunities in Maine. As the legislation goes into effect at the end of 2023, local municipalities have been updating zoning and master plans in anticipation of the new law and its potential to increase development. This course will feature presentations and panel discussions from policy makers, municipal and regional planners and community development officials, and skilled practitioners to explore the new law, how municipalities have been responding, and what expertise will be needed to utilize the opportunities created by the new law to create new housing inventory. This course is appropriate for any level of understanding of the development process.
