Lunch & Learn - PFAS in Maine
Wednesday, March 29, 2023 (12:00 PM - 1:00 PM) (EDT)
We welcome you to join us for a Lunch & Learn on Wednesday, March 29th where we'll dive into MAR's recent webinar with Maine DEP.
Join Susanne Miller, Maine DEP’s Director of the Bureau of Remediation and Waste Management, for an informational session regarding PFAS (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances). Learn about the DEP resources available to better educate yourself and your clients as we learn how to navigate PFAS in Maine.
What are PFAS? PFAS, also know as Forever Chemicals, are found in coated paper; the sludge from paper mills that produced them has been spread as compost on Maine farmland, which unfortunately has leached into soil and ground water. A recent review from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) outlines a host of health effects associated with PFAS exposure, including cancer, liver damage, decreased fertility, and increased risk of asthma and thyroid disease. Property owners and buyers are concerned about disclosing and acquiring property that may be contaminated, and this webinar offers ‘need to know’ details.
Event will be held in-person at GPBR Office and lunch will be provided.
